For new pipe and cable installations of mains and services, Impact Moling hammers have been an economic and ecological alternative for more than 20 years. Operated by compressed air, the impact moling hammers, make their way accurately through the ground creating a bore hole in all compressible soils, towing PE, PVC or even steel pipes up to ND 150mm directly into the pre-formed bore hole.

This system has been used extensively worldwide for installing water and gas mains, telephone, electric and TV cables and service laterals beneath roads, railway lines and motorways.

Impact Moling is used for pushing a moling head over shorter distances (up to 40m), but along a horizontal plane.

On the first stroke, the whole assembly head is propelled forward as the piston accelerates and impacts against the rear of the chisel. As the chisel is propelled forward compressing the spring, the piston then impacts against the front casing, driving it into the previously made bore hole.

This two part action has the effect of:

a) Should an obstacle be encountered and forward propulsion hindered, the chisel/ multi-cutter cone in     the reciprocating head will continue 'chiselling' independently until the obstruction is fragmenting and displaced.

b) Directional stability is maintained and surface friction overcome as the casing is both driven by the piston and pulled into the previously made bore hole.

Pipe Ramming is the most efficient way of installing a new steel casing. MPC's specially designed pushing hammers can locate a steel pipe speedily, without distortion and are the recommended solution to laying steel pipes beneath structures or motorways. It is a viable and much cheaper alternative to large excavation work, it causes less disruption to traffic and services, needs only a moderately sized starting pit and is ideal for all soil types apart from solid rock strata.

Summary of advantages:
1) Suitable for all soil conditions except solid rock.
2) Accurate bores, direct on target.
3) Simultaneous pipe pulling possible.
4) Versatility of applications.
5) Tracking of the hammer during bore, possible.
6) Choice of eleven hammer diameters.
