LMI is principally used in the replacement
of low pressure cast iron mains 3" to 12 and can
be used on ductile and steel, with window cutting required.
Live Mains Insertion is similar
to dead insertion with one major difference being that
the old cast iron main is kept live during the insertion
process maintaining supply to all gas consumers.
During and after insertion, customers
are supplied with gas via the annular space and when
operationally convenient, services can be transferred
to the PE once it is ‘gassed up’.
Benefits of live mains insertion
includes:
Maximum operational flexibility
Minimum time off gas for customers
-only one re-light required
Minimum excavation at any one
time
Minimum impact on the environment
Minimum capital equipment cost
Significant reduction in excavation
and restoration costs
